The Wings Over Camarillo airshow is held every August in the city of Camarillo, California. I've been attending this show for six years or so and I've enjoyed every one. It is a two-hour drive for me, but I love a nice drive and because I leave at 0530 on Saturday morning, it's a relatively quite and beautiful drive. Well, once you get past, Los Angeles, that is.
My favorite thing to do during the drive is listen to pre-selected podcast or two. Also, when I hit Ventura Highway, I play America's song "Ventura Highway" on repeat for two or three times and think about all the good years that went by and are still to come. I enjoy the drive just as much as I enjoy the airshow.
Now, the airshow! My favorite thing about this airshow is that it has a good mix of warbirds (my favorite) and general aviation. Further, the crowds are always enthusiastic and quite manageable. They have a good STEM presentation in one of the hangars, and that always draws lots of kids and their parents. That's probably the best reason to have an airshow: to get kids interested in aviation and the sciences. For this accomplishment, I say, well done, and see you next year!
